Luda’s Lyrics Don’t Thrill Obama’s People

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

If you scroll down a few posts you’ll hear the audio for “Politics as Usual”, Ludacris’ recent mixtape release showing love to Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama. Apparently, Sen. Obama, or at least his people, weren’t all that flattered by the shout out…. well not publicly anyway

On Wednesday (July 30), Obama’s press representative responded to the freestyle, saying, “As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual, he should be ashamed of these lyrics.”

Obama may not support all rap lyrics, but he has gotten overwhelming support from the hip-hop community. If you ask any rapper out there, he or she is likely to tell you “Barack in ‘08″ or give the candidate other props.

Houston, We Have A Problem

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

A day after the Rockets and Sacramento Kings agreed in principle to a deal sending Artest to Houston for Bobby Jackson, Donte Green and a first-round draft pick, Yao expressed concerns about team chemistry to the Houston Chronicle and referenced Artest’s involvement in the 2004 brawl with Pistons fans.

“Hopefully, he’s not fighting anymore and going after a guy in the stands,” Yao said, according to the Chronicle.

Dang Yao!! The 93 Rockets jersey isn’t even out of the tailors yet and you’re jumping on Ron. That doesn’t seem like the best way to start a relationship that could be very valuable and very profitable for both of you.

Ron’s response? “I understand what Yao said, but I’m still ghetto,” Artest said, according to the report. “That’s not going to change. I’m never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don’t think he’s ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture. Once Yao Ming gets to know me, he’ll understand what I’m about”.

Just for the record, I don’t think being black means being a part of the ghetto culture Ron spoke of. At least my brotha’ is honest though.

New R Kelly Tracks??

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

More than a dozen of R Kelly’s previously unreleased records leaked online over the past couple of days, and the R. does shout out his upcoming album on a few of the tracks, leading the listener to believe they were to be included on the 12 Play: 4th Quarter album. The ditties are more in the R&B lane, with more singing and less hip-hop than his last album, Double Up.

Personally, I’m a little tired of R Kelly. I’ve never forgiven him for that awful Trapped In The Closet thing he did. I may never forgive that.

Here are a few tracks you can take a listen to.

Bye Bye Ron-Ron

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Man I hate to see Ron Artest go! Say what you want to about the guy but he is a tremendous ball player and a really good dude. I got to know him pretty well last year when he started frequenting Monarchs games.  I even spent time working out in the gym with his young son and daughter. He has a deep-rooted love for basketball that is unmatched by a lot of guys I’ve meet in the league. I guarantee you; Ron is going to have his best year as a professional basketball player this year in a Rockets uniform. Along side a healthy Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady; the Rockets might be the team to watch this year.

On another note, welcome back Bobby Jackson. Bobby is on of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet and no one works harder on the court. It’s nice to have a guy on this Kings team who the fans can love. We loved him as a King. We loved him when he left. Perhaps we’ll love him even more no that he’s back.

Get Healthy

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

One thing I promised when we opened The Break Room is it would be an All-Access pass to KSFM and to me. Well one thing I am very passionate about is health and fitness. Its something I’ve studied for almost a decade now. So each week I will post different health tips that I have learned over the years. Maybe they’ll help you lose weight, get that summer six pack, or just feel better.

Tips for Eating Out

1)   All meat should be grilled.

2)   All vegetables should be steamed.

3)   No mater what it is, if it has the word ‘Cream’ in it, its bad for you. Better yet, if the meal description says ‘creamy’ its bad for you. Don’t order it!

4)   Order everything on the side. Dressings, butter, and any other condiments. Restaurants always give you way more then you need. By ordering stuff on the side you control how much goes on your plate. This goes a very long way in saving calories.

5)   If you insist on ordering desert order it to go. That will give time for your stomach to settle and digest everything you just ate.

6)   Drink water and a diet soda. Fruit drinks and regular soda fill you up with sugar and can ruin your meal.

Kanye’s ‘Homecoming’

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Kanye West seems to get more attention for his frequent temper tantrums then he does anything else. However, it is important to acknowledge stars when they do something good instead of focusing on them only when they do something bad.

In “Homecoming”, Kanye West, along with MTV’s Sway Calloway, give recently returned Iraq war veterans the surprise of their lives by unexpectedly visiting their homes. More than 1.7 million young people have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan- see first-hand the difficult and often painful challenges young vets face when they return home, and watch as Kanye helps them realize their dreams.

Much love to Mr. West and MTV on this one!

The Best In The Game

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Rappers love nothing more then to talk about how great they are. We got Presidents, about a hundred Kings, and a G.O.A.T. We got rappers that dis other rappers. We got rappers getting arrested on a weekly basis. Yet there’s one hip-hop artist that doesn’t jock himself every record. He doesn’t get arrested and he doesn’t keep an entourage of thugs. Actually, it’s quite the opposite. This artist sits courtside next to Bill Gates to watch the USA basketball team. Oh, and by the way, he’s Lebron James’ invited guest. Not to mention the shout outs he gets from Presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama. If you haven’t caught on I’m talking about Ludacris. Peep this track he made dedicated to the presidential hopeful.

Step your game up, hip-hop! Luda’s untouchable!!!

$300 Million

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Congratulations go to me! I always wanted to be recognized for something and I guess this is as good as it gets. I am officially the only human being in the world who hasn’t seen the Dark Knight. Many of you have seen it two or three times while I’ve yet to Fandango my ticket.

Dark Knight pulled in $75.6 million in its second weekend in theaters pushing its domestic total to $314,245,000. Industry insiders are watching the totals closely in anticipation it could reach Titanic’s historic $600 million mark.

The Dark Knight is the fastest movie to reach $100 million, the fastest movie to reach $200 million, and the fastest movie to reach $300 million. On a side note The Dark Knight made more money in 12 hours of release then Eddie Murphy’s epic comedy Meet Dave has made in five weeks of release. Sorry Eddie! (And sorry to anybody who actually saw Meet Dave).
